This Fair Use Policy explains what we expect when you use Ucingo services, and what happens on the rare occasions someone doesn’t. It applies to all Ucingo services, including mobile, business internet (NBN), unified communications, and inbound services.
Why we have this policy
Some of our plans include unlimited calls, SMS, or data. These are designed for normal business and personal use — not for reselling, running a call centre off a consumer-style plan, or activity that puts unreasonable load on the network at the expense of other customers.
What counts as fair use
Fair use covers the kind of everyday calling, messaging, and data use you’d expect from a business or individual on that plan. It doesn’t cover:
- Reselling or on-supplying your service to a third party without our agreement
- Using an unlimited plan to run a call centre, auto-dialer, or bulk messaging operation
- Sustained, automated, or continuous data use that’s more consistent with hosting or wholesale traffic than normal business use
- Any use that disrupts the network or degrades service for other customers
Mobile fair use limits
Ucingo Mobile runs on the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network, and the limits below are set by Telstra Wholesale and apply to all Ucingo Mobile services:
| Counter | Applies to | Period | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| International voice | Outgoing calls to all international destinations | 3 days | 1,500 minutes |
| Domestic voice | Outgoing calls to domestic destinations (prefix 612*, 613*, 614*, 617*, 618*) | 3 days | 1,440 minutes |
| International SMS | SMS sent to all international destinations | 3 days | 300 SMS |
| Domestic SMS | SMS sent to domestic destinations (prefix 612*, 613*, 614*, 617*, 618*) | 3 days | 1,000 SMS |
Separately, Telstra Wholesale prohibits using a mobile service:
- To generate mobile or SMS terminating access payments (for example, by SIM boxing)
- To transit, refile, or aggregate domestic or international traffic
- As a call collection service, or for call redirection to call centres, call sinks, or mass termination services
- In a way that’s automatically generated by software or hardware
- With devices that switch or reroute calls without Telstra’s consent
These are network-level restrictions, not just an Ucingo policy — if a service breaches them, we’re required to immediately suspend it, and Telstra may separately suspend, limit, or terminate the service (with 48 hours’ notice) or apply pay-as-you-go charges. This is different from the general “excessive use” approach above, where we’ll talk to you first — these specific misuses require immediate action.

What happens if other usage looks excessive
Outside the specific mobile limits above, if we notice usage on your account that looks outside normal fair use, we’ll contact you first — we’re not looking to catch anyone out. In most cases this means a conversation about what you’re using the service for, and whether a different plan suits you better. If usage continues well outside fair use after we’ve raised it with you, we may apply reasonable network management measures, move you to a more suitable plan, or in serious or repeated cases, suspend the service.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or the underlying network. Any changes will be posted on this page.
